If you know of a dog who is living outside 24/7, please do something.

We do not recommend that you contact the "owner" of the dog directly.  They may not take kindly to what you are telling them. If someone else calls animal control or the police after you have expressed your concern, they will probably assume you were the one who called and now you may have contentious relations with a neighbor.

This is what we recommend after you understand the ordinances in your community and laws:

1.  Get as many facts as you can in a legal manner (no trespassing):  address; times of day that the dog is outside; weather conditions;

2.  If possible, take photos, videos.  If the dog is barking incessantly, a video would be very helpful.  All of these things will help reinforce your statements;

3.  Contact your local animal shelter or police department;

4.  Respectfully follow up in a few days if the situation has not been remedied.

There may be a gap that needs to be bridged between what is legal and what is inhumane.  This is where we can offer some assistance.

Please email us with what's requested in items 1 and 2 above.  In all instances we will do what we can to verify this information.  We will then send the "owners" educational material and request that they speak with us directly.  This method has proven to be successful in many instances.

Note:  Many owners have surrendered their dogs to us and we thank them for this act of kindness.  Out of privacy for them, we will not post pictures or names of the owners or the dogs.
